Parent Involvement and Support

Our Parents are encouraged to develop a strong working relationship with teachers.

While offering to volunteer at school is welcomed, these simple at home steps provide a great system of support.

  1.  Make sure children discuss what they learned during the day as it allows them to learn to summarize.
  2. Help with organization by setting aside specific time to study, complete homework, play, and get quality sleep.
  3. Model reading for pleasure and set technology limits.
All Community Members have the right to review the instructional materials used in district classrooms.  If you have an interest in reviewing any instructional materials, please contact the building Principal to schedule at time for review.

Trotwood- Madison City Schools

Structured Literacy Program

In grades K-5 at Trotwood-Madison elementary schools our Structured Literacy Program encompasses the following:

  • McGraw Hill’s Wonders Reading is a high-quality literacy program supported by the Science of Reading. It provides a comprehensive, integrated plan for meeting the needs of all students, focusing on explicit instruction for phonemic awareness, phonics, text reading fluency, and vocabulary. The program has texts that are high quality, engaging, rigorous and knowledge building. The questions, tasks, lessons and practice support students’ development of reading, writing, speaking, listening and critical thinking skills.

  • Reading Horizon (K-3 Discovery & 4-5 Elevate) is an explicit and systematic program that teaches the necessary foundational skills for proficient reading. The program encompasses the following: phoneme blending and segmentation, accuracy and automaticity of grapheme-phoneme correspondences, and decoding automaticity of words with previously learned concepts. The unique marking system that is embedded in every skill lesson helps students recognize and decode sound, letter, and word patterns.

  • Heggerty- Phonemic Awareness Instruction K-2.
